    Description

1776 French Calendar Medal Rev War RARE
Calendar medals struck during the American Revolution years, 1775 -1783, are very collectible, and are highly sought by coin and exonumia collectors, as well as militaria collectors and students of history. Only nine medals are required to complete the series, eighteen if you collect both the British and French issues (those French medals were also struck in England).
The toughest one to find is the 1776 issue, British and French. The obverse die (reverse? depending on which side you consider the obverse) for the French issue broke early on its life, so very few were struck. All specimens I've seen, or owned in the past, had a die break. What makes the 1776 British ones so rare, I don't know the answer. But it seems to be rarer than its rare French counterpart.
On this listing we offer a French piece with that diagnostic die break. Condition per photos. Struck in brass, measures 38mm and weighs 14.2g. RARE!
