Description
Hello and welcome to my sale! I have been a Barbie collector of over 30 years and what an enjoyable hobby it has been. Now it is time for me to start selling my vast collection for someone else to have fun with.Presenting for auction I have this absolutely super rare 1963 Midge's Ensemble Gift Set by Mattel in very gently played with good condition. I know because she is from my childhood days. I still remember buying her with my babysitting money at Leonard's Department store here in old Lansing, Michigan. Oh, what happy memories this gem brings back!
The doll:
A brunette Midge wearing the chartreuse and orange two-piece swimsuit. Yes that's the way she came because those colors coordinated with the included clothes in this gift set. The doll itself is excellent with only fading on her left eyebrow and toe paint on the left foot. There is a tiny light scratch on her back which is very hard to see. Her limbs are tight.
The fashions:
Most of the clothes are in excellent condition with the exception of the straw hat which has fraying and a tiny hole in the top where I pinned it to Midge's head, stretched elastic in the short skirt's waist and some light stains on the front of the swimsuit top. Included is the original black wire stand.
The box:
The lid and bottom are original but the yellow cardboard insert is a replacement. When I first got into collecting and was retrieving all of my childhood Barbie things, I decided to put this Midge back in her box with all of her clothes and accessories using a piece of poster board to make the replacement insert. I had found a photo of this set in a reference book. The the clothing and accessories are mounted with archival double stick tape. As you can see in the photos, the box lid and bottom is in poor condition. How it survived all of our moves I'll never know. I kept it to store many of my Barbie's evening gowns in it because it was the perfect size. Plus I just loved the graphics on the lid. Anyway, the box is what it is.
