    Description

RARE Belgian Original Release Movie Poster In Poor Condition -
    Quo Vadis?
    (1924),
Emil Jannings, Elena Sangro, Henryk Sienkiewicz, Italian Production, Ancient Rome, Nero, Silent Film, Biblical Epic
Here is a rare and beautiful old Belgian movie poster from the original release of the silent Italian historical epic,
    Quo Vadis?
. This film was based on a popular novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz and produced on a grand scale in Italy with Italian and German backing. It starred soon to be Oscar winning actor Emil Jannings in the role of Emperor Nero and was later remade in the Fifties as a technicolor epic starring Robert Taylor, Peter Ustinov (as Nero) and Deborah Kerr.  An alternate version of this film was released with recorded music and sound effects in 1929. This poster appears to be from that release in Belgium. The poster is not in the greatest condition. It is quite fragile and has quite a few tears and some paper loss around the white borders. The wonderful artwork does remain intact as does the printer's information in the bottom border. This poster would definitely benefit by being linenbacked and restored. The good news is that there is absolute minimal loss to the artwork. Regardless of the condition issues, this poster is very rare and seldom comes up for sale or auction. I have only known of one other copy which was sold by Dominique Besson many years ago.
