    Description

PCGS authenticated and graded VF Details.
Intended for issue by Francis Lovelace, the second governor of New York serving
from 1668 to 1673, the designs on these farthing or halfpenny-size tokens include representations of Cupid and Psyche under a palm tree on the obverse, with the Lovelace coat of arms on the reverse. According to Breen, the obverse design "suggests propaganda for the colonies as a place to enjoy life." The tokens were struck in England, perhaps in Bristol, and there is not any evidence the pieces were ever circulated within America.
Golden brown with darker areas in portions of the fields. A tiny plug is present within the upper branches of the tree. Listed on page 47 of the 2014 Guide Book. The amount of surviving specimens is only estimated to be about two to three dozen.
