UNUSUAL ANTIQUE GEORGIAN ENGLISH GILT WATCH COCK NECKLACE CHOKER 15.5" c1760

A wonderfully unusual Georgian period gilt choker necklace made from fifteen ornate watchcocks from very old verge pocket watches.
Each is fabulously finely hand pierced and hand engraved with the most intricate of designs and they’re joined by matching gilt rings, with an integrated gilt hook clasp to fasten the necklace. It’s an intriguing piece that gets better the closer you look - close enough and you’ll start noticing all manner of fantastic figures and statuesque devices - including wheels, grimacing faces, vines and flowers, animals, vases, stars etc.
Put together sometime in the Victorian period, it’s currently 15.5” long so wearable as a choker or maybe even doubled as a bracelet! Rings could possibly be added to increase length if needed.
The cocks themselves date from around the mid-eighteenth century, rings and hook are mid-Victorian and all is in very good, fully wearable condition with no loss or damage. It weighs 58.3 grams and measures 15.5 inches, each section is around 35 x 22 mm.
