    Description

Bronze medallion, struck to celebrate the merger of Wells Fargo & Company and First Interstate Bank Corp. in 1996. Not listed in the article on Wells Fargo-issued medals found in the October, 1993 issue of the Journal of the Pacific Coast Numismatic Society, written by Wells' Historical Officer Robert J. Chandler, due obviously to the cutoff date.  However, similar to Catalog number WF-10, a medal struck to celebrate another merger, with the American National Bank.  This uses the same Earl Butler-designed Reverse of WF-9 & -10,
an image of a Overland/Wells Fargo Concord Stage.  The so-called "romance card" enclosed does indicate that this had a limited mintage of unknown quantity.  H
owever, the 1990 merger medal had a mintage of 1,800, so this should be close to that if slightly larger.
Mounted loosely in a small angled wooden holder, meant presumably to sit on a desk.  Housed overall in a 3x3 cardboard box with a "Welcome Aboard" sticker on the cover. This suggests it was a premium given away to new depositors, similar to other Wells Fargo issues.
The medal itself is as-struck (Choice Uncirculated or better) - shown as "Used" just to keep the bureaucrats happy.
